Ski Poiana Brasov
There are some good tree-lined runs, never too crowded, swooping down through the forests for intermediate skiing once you've gained some confidence - so it's an ideal place for families, beginners, returners and improvers.
With a newly-upgraded lift system and well-groomed pistes, with snowmaking for additional cover if necessary , skiing here is a positive pleasure amidst the glorious scenery of the Carpathian mountains. You'll find an Olympic ski-track and two 80m-high ski jumps (eeek!)as well as the downhill and slalom runs. There's night skiing too.
Accommodation is good in purpose-built Poiana Brasov and a lot of it is close to the slopes for your convenience. The cuisine ranges from international to local - check out those flaming bear steaks all you carnivores, or distract yourself with watching the folk dancing.
Après-ski Poiana Brasov
Seriously spoooooky! No, not the hotels but the legendary Count Dracula's home, Bran Castle, which is a short trip away and a must see, with its pointy turrets and towering façade. Another worthwhile trip is to the lovely old city of Brasov with its 15th-century church and famous cellar bars.
Otherwise, in the resort there is a skating rink, opportunities for horse-riding, sleigh rides, ice-skating, walks by candlelight (also spooky?), Romanian folk evenings - and all at affordable prices.
Go Romania for incredible value for money, especially if you're new to skiing. We'll get you there with one of our GetSkiing holidays.
Gary's Little Gems "If you are on a budget and want to learn to ski or are an early stage intermediate this is the ideal place to learn as the prices are half that of the Alps and they have very good English-speaking instructors." Skiing Holidays in Poiana Brasov
