Ski Resorts in Finland

For many people, a winter trip to Finland is all about heading for Lapland to visit Santa Claus and to embrace the magic of the festive period.

However, there’s also plenty for those who want to head to the fringes of the Arctic in search of the best possible skiing conditions, with Finland offering something different to the traditional skiing resorts in the likes of France and Switzerland.

Whilst the flights are slightly longer, the extra few hours on a plane are more than worthwhile given the delights that await when you arrive.

Excellent levels of snow are a given, whilst you shouldn’t have any concerns about huge queues; with the quiet slopes being one of the major attractions.

It goes without saying that Finland isn’t the warmest option for a ski holiday but there are plenty of additional activities beyond skiing to help you keep warm – which can include everything from snowmobile rides to reindeer safaris.

Although Finland is suitable for skiers of all levels, those who are more experienced will enjoy the opportunity to head off piste and explore the more challenging runs that are available.

Add in dramatic landscapes and the opportunity to spend the evening under the stars marveling at the stunning Northern Lights and the appeal of a ski trip to Finland becomes crystal clear.

Ski areas in Finland

Finland is home to a number of ski resorts, with the most popular region being located within Lapland. It’s here that you’ll find the biggest ski resort on Finnish soil, Levi, where plenty of work has gone into improving the experience for skiers – with new lifts, an enhanced ski area and a special snowpark.

English speaking instructors are on hand to help beginners on the uncrowded slopes, with cross country skiing and snowmobiling also available. Resorts like Yllas and Iso-Syote are ideal for families whilst the more experienced skier will love the challenges that provided by Ruka, which sits barely 60km away from the arctic circle.

Apres-Ski

Within Finland, you’ll find plenty of options when it comes to après-ski, although be warned in advance that the bar prices when it comes to going for a drink after a day on the slopes aren’t the cheapest. Despite that, you’re sure to enjoy the fantastic atmosphere, with live music being found across many of the resorts.

You’ll also be able to embrace local culture and sample traditional cuisine, and that’s before even taking into the account the huge array of additional winter activities that are offered – from dog sledding to the magical experience of a trip to visit Santa Claus.

Ski Accommodation

Accommodation in Finland is as stunning as the landscapes that surround it, with the chance to stay in traditional log cabins that sit in the forest or to head for a more luxurious hotel with all mod cons. Whether you are travelling as a couple, a family, or a group, you’ll be able to chose from a range of magical accommodation options to enhance your dream ski break.

Lift Passes

Your lift pass acts the key to the slopes so we can help get them organised before you travel – meaning the moment you arrive in resort you’re free to get the action underway.
