Skiing Holidays in La Thuile, Italy

Ski La Thuile

As its name suggests, La Thuile is very close to the French border, linked to La Rosière, yet it is a perfect example of a traditional Italian ski resort, with reasonable prices to match and relatively crowd-free slopes. The scenery is breathtaking too. What could be better for families looking for fun and good value combined?

La Thuile with La Rosière offers 150kms of slopes linked by 38 lifts. Beginners have a nursery area at Les Suches as well as village slopes, and there are loads of blue runs to try when ski-legs are achieved. For intermediates, blues and reds of every grade provide endless entertainment - those going down to the Petit St Bernard pass are more challenging - or pop over to La Rosière using the same ski pass. Experts will thrill at the black pistes 2 and 3 down from Les Suches and there is good off-piste snow to be explored.

Snowboarders will delight in some brilliant tree and carving runs and extensive freeriding opportunities.

Après-ski La Thuile

La Thuile was once a mining village and the centre still retains its traditional feel, with local shops, bars and restaurants. There's a new purpose-built complex called Planibel if you prefer modernity. This contains La Cage aux Folles for après-ski drinkies, and a swimming pool.

Rustic restaurant Lo Tatà comes highly recommended for a lovely meal out, and you could also try the Grotta or Taverna Coppa Pan. There's a super-duper café called Chocolat - we're sure you can't guess its speciality! Nightlife is fairly quiet (hoorah if you have kids!) but the Konver with disco stays open way past your bedtime.

Otherwise, there are winter walks and dog sledding, snow kiting, ice skating, or trips to the nearby thermal baths at Pré-St-Didier, which is absolute spa heaven on earth. Or, on a non-skiing day, you could go to the ancient Roman town of Aosta, a bit further afield.

La Thuile is fab for families - let us take you there on a GetSkiing special!
