Said to be the sunniest ski resort in the whole of Europe at 270 days per year - that will surely put a smile on your face!- Pamporovo is delightful. It's right up in the Bulgarian countryside amongst the forest-clad Rhodope Mountains, at the foot of the Snejanka which is the highest point of the ski area, dominating the vista with its rounded peak.
The ski area is reached by an efficient free bus service and all slopes run down the Snejanka, mostly blues and greens but there is more challenge with reds available for intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders. There's a 4km run down to the tranquil old village of Stoykite and a few black runs to make you tingle, including a Giant Slalom to test you to the limits and The Wall - of moguls - eeek! Snow-making covers around 90% of the pistes so milder weather is not an issue.
Like the rest of Bulgaria, the one thing you can count on is affordable prices.
What a lovely rural village! Absolutely charming - but also has lively après-ski with good restaurants and loads of bars where the drinks come cheaply, like BJ's and the White Hart Pub (less British than it sounds!) The locals provide folklore nights for your delight and there's a bowling alley, outdoor ice skating and indoor swimming and spa treatments.
In resort, there's also cross-country skiing, dog sledding, night skiing tobogganing, snowmobile rides and some cleared winter walking trails. If you're a culture vulture, you could take a trip to Bachkovo Monastery or the ancient city of Plovdiv, a remarkable Unesco World Heritage site.
Best of all, make the most of the crazily-low prices and have yourself some fun, on the slopes and off. Ask us and we'll take you there on one of our GetSkiing super holidays.
Gary's Little Gems "This is the perfect place to learn to ski with the cheapest packages at £ 180 which include passes, lessons and equipement. There is also a great sun record which means you can show off your skier's "raccoon eyes" sun tan when you get home!" . Skiing Holidays in Pamporovo
