Cortina

Cortina is one of the most popular ski resorts not only on Italian soil, but also anywhere within Europe.

Known as the Queen of the Dolomites, Cortina sits to the east of the Sella Ronda circuit and is known for its first class skiing, impressive accommodation, livery après-ski and – for those who enjoy a break from the slopes – a range of excellent shopping opportunities.

Make no mistake though, it is on the on-piste action that will be the major draw for people who want to head for Cortina, with the slopes being suitable for skiers of all levels.

The well groomed slopes are ideal for both beginners and intermediates who are looking to improve their skills, with plenty of options to cater for the less experienced skiers.

Around the Socrepes area, there are plenty of nursery slopes for those who are taking to skis for the first time, whilst the stunning scenery around Tofana means those who are moving up the next level will have the most dramatic of backdrops to their skiing adventure.

Although there aren’t as many black runs, they include some of the most challenging runs anywhere in the Dolomites – so there’s still a a challenge for those seeking a thrill.

If you want to enjoy your winter break surrounded by awesome scenery, want to embrace the ambience of Italy and want to have a plethora of activities to keep you busy when off the slopes, then Cortina ticks the boxes.

Off Piste Skiing in Cortina

Away from the limited black runs, there is the option of heading off-piste in search of a greater sense of adventure. In fact, around Cortina you’ll find some top class off-piste skiing but will probably need the assistance of a local guide to seek it out as it isn’t the most obvious to locate.

Family Skiing in Cortina

Cortina is more than suitable for families who are looking for some winter fun, with a special children’s area as part of the beginners section of the resort that is ideal for youngsters. They even have their own special chairlift to enhance the experience.

Playgrounds, a nursery/kindergarten, a special ski school and a toboggan run are also sure to appeal to families.

Apres-Ski in Cortina

You could almost make the argument for visiting Cortina for the après-ski alone, with a wide selection of options available after a day on the slopes.

From simple quick bites right through to the very best Michelin-starred options, there is a huge range of dining options available from the many restaurants, with the different bars helping to add to the Italian experience.

It’s worth noting though that some of the bars and restaurants do close earlier than you might expect.

Non-Skiing Activities in Cortina

Off the ski slopes, there’s a selection of different activities that will help to ensure the fun doesn’t stop when the skis come off…

You could head for the popular toboggan runs, try ice skating or curling in the former Olympic Ice Stadium or embrace the beauty of the surrounding area with some winter walks or snowshoeing.

If you have a desire to sample some more extreme activities, you can even try your hand at ice-driving nearby during peak winter season.
