St. Johann in Tirol

St Johann is a small town that is located in the heart of the Kitzbüheler Alps, and offers all the charm of a traditional Tyrolean village in picture postcard surroundings.

Well suited to those who are looking for an affordable Austrian ski break, St Johann is located less than 20 minutes away from the more well-known resort of Kitzbühel and is well ideal for the less experienced skier.

That’s because many of the runs are aimed at those who would class themselves as being at an intermediate level, with limited challenge for experts.

Complete beginners will be well served by the nursery area near to the heart of the town, with the more gentle intermediate offerings also being suitable for those making the step to the next level.

It should be noted however that lift passes are available that grant access to the wider area, meaning those more advanced skiers can also explore the options available outside St Johann.

Off Piste Skiing in St. Johann in Tirol

The off-piste options within St Johann are limited, but nearby Fieberbrunn – less than half an hour away – offers the opportunity to explore off the main slopes, particularly when there has been a good fall of snow.

Family Skiing in St. Johann in Tirol

Families will enjoy a break in St Johann for a number of reasons, with the traffic-free centre of the resort and the village atmosphere holding plenty of appeal.

There is also a number of ski schools that will help youngsters gain the confidence required to take to the slopes, with special children’s areas also a feature of the resort.

Child care is also available.

Apres-Ski in St. Johann in Tirol

The après-ski in St Johann is quieter than in many other Austrian resorts but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything for you to make use of after a day on the slopes – or indeed in the midst of your time enjoying the snow conditions.

Alongside the slopes there is a range of excellent restaurants, including the Angereralm – which offers excellent local cuisine and has a history dating back hundreds of years. It also features an extensive wine cellar.

There are more restaurants within the resort itself but only a limited number of bars in which to relax with a drink, although what is there can provide some evening fun when live music is playing.

Non-Skiing Activities in St. Johann in Tirol

There are plenty of options away from the slopes for those paying a visit to St Johann, which include tobogganing, tennis, sleigh rides, curling, tennis, a swimming pool and access to a sauna and gym.

There are plenty of cross-country skiing routes for those who want to sample an alternative form of the sport.

Paragliding and the huge Horn Park adventure park, featuring 14 zip lines that run to more than 800 metres, offer something for the adrenaline junkie.

Not all high-wire courses will be open during winter however, so it’s worth checking beforehand.
