Solden

Oh my goodness, Spectre was filmed here, so Sölden's definitely the place to go to be shaken and (not) stirred. It has three main peaks above 3000m - Gaislachkogl (3,058m), Tiefenbachkogl (3250m) and the highest Schwarze Schneide (3340m). How about that? With glacier skiing available too, that means the snow conditions are terrific and the season long.

For learners, there's a great ski school and gentle slopes reached via the Giggijoch gondola, then on to the blue runs of the Giggijoch bowl.

It's intermediate skiing which makes Sölden stand out with around 50kms of red routes and stunning descents from Giggijoch and Gaislachkogl, especially Red Route 1 with a 1000m descent. If you've the legs, tackle the Big3 Tour, taking in all the peaks.

Black run skiers will be suitably challenged with 28kms to choose from, loads of off-piste, and a demanding Rettenbach Valley ski route.

Snowboarders will be in heaven too, with an inventive terrain park located under the Hainbachkar chairlift on the Giggijoch offering the half-pipe of all half-pipes plus other obstacles to challenge and thrill.

It's buzzin'! If you have energy to spare after a day on the slopes it will be eaten up quickly perhaps even at the very first venue which is, for many, an indoor/outdoor bar complex called Phillips, at the bottom of the T-bar by Ausserwald.

There are far too many bars to mention in Sölden itself but if you're in to table dancing, try the Rodelhutte It's rumoured that nightclub Kuhstall stays open until 8 am, but surely everyone's long in bed by that time, anxious to rise and shine for an early ski?

Sölden has countless eateries for every taste and budget from top notch Hotel Bergland to a more humble pizzeria, La Tavola. As for other activities - a 5km toboggan run, ice skating, sleigh rides, curling, winter paths to walk along, and the Freizeit Arena with adventure pool, saunas, steam rooms and indoor tennis. Is that enough for you?
