Lake Louise

Voted Canada's best ski resort for three years in a row - and that's saying something because Canada has some top notch resorts - Lake Louise not only has fabulous skiing for every ability but it's set in the most breathtaking scenery of the Banff National Park.

Until you've seen it for yourself, it's hard to imagine just how stunning it is.

Having hosted both men's and women's World Cup races, you can get an idea of the top end skiing that is available in Lake Louise, although the resort remains a firm family favourite thanks to low level trails through the forest and high open slopes.

For beginners there is excellent choice and progression from the Wiwaxy to Eagle Meadows. About 50% of the runs are for intermediates, but groomed black runs - like the Meadowlark from the Grizzly Express gondola - are super-duper experiences too. You could also try the Boomerang and have fun coming back!

For thrill-seekers there are steep powder bowls with mogul runs and there's a fun terrain park with lots to do including snowcross and an airbag.

And then - with a Big3 ski pass - you can ski at Mt. Norquay and Sunshine Village too, accessible by bus. What's not to like?

Off Piste Skiing in Lake Louise

There's plenty of opportunity to go off-piste in Lake Louise, with much of the off-piste action being found between the main slopes - meaning you don't have to look far to find it.

Challenging chutes can also be found at the summit of the Top of the World chair, with the light powder snow being of the highest quality.

Family Skiing in Lake Louise

The ski school in Lake Louise is well known for the quality of the lessons it provides for children, so it should come as little surprise that the resort is popular with families.

The tranquil nature of the resort is also a major selling point, as is the selection of family friendly accommodation that is available.

Apres-Ski in Lake Louise

Lake Louise village is a small place with a few shops and the night-life is relatively quiet - so its perfect for a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

There are lovely places to chill out, like the Kokanee Kabin Deck, and some wonderful entertainment such as a torchlight dinner and ski event. The Post Hotel (check out the wine cellar!) and Deer Lodge come thoroughly recommended or the Timber Wolf Pizza for those less concerned about fine dining.

Non-Skiing Activities in Lake Louise

Off the skis but on the snow, you can have fun at the Tube Park, or go snowshoeing - and above the snow, there's a sight-seeing gondola which is unmissable.

Ice-skating, dog sledding and sleigh rides are also available, with cross-country skiing being an option for those who want to take their skiing away from the slopes.

Gary's Little Gems in Lake Louise

Standing at the top of Lake Louise and looking across the valley at Mt Temple and the lake itself has to be one the most spectacular and beautiful views in the world, period. Breath in, soak it up and let yourself enjoy the great views, snow and friendly locals. For the off-piste enthusiast, the back bowls and tree skiing down some the chutes just need to be skied.
