Skiing Holidays in Tremblant, Canada
Now here's something different - not just a ski holiday in Canada, but a ski holiday that's not in the Rockies, instead on the east side of North America, with a shorter flight time from the UK. It's a year-round resort in the French-speaking province of Quebec, deep in the Laurentian Mountains and about 80 miles north of Montreal. It has 94 trails over 654 acres in four zones - the North, South and Soleil Sides and The Edge, with loads of high-speed lifts to get you where you want to go in double-quick time.
There's truly something for everyone here, overlooked by the beautiful peak of Mont Tremblant - all 900m of it. Beginners have a great range from the green l'Alonquin Trail and the 4-mile long Nansen, as well as little gems like the Petite Bonheur. For a great experience, intermediate skiers could take the Lowel Thomas chairlift then drop down the Beauchemain. If you're in to leg-burning, you expert skiers, take the Duncan Express lift and try the Geant, or the scarily long black runs in The Edge, like Les Bouleaux and No. 47 Laurentienne.
Three terrain parks - Adrénaline, Progression and Evolution - offer different levels of freestyle fun for boarders and adventurous skiers alike.
Go Tremblant! Yes, it does mean trembling in English. Perhaps that's your legs after a long day on the slopes?
It's a charming village, it's pedestrianised, its streets are pretty to wander along and it's a little French in atmosphere - bon appétit if you try the delicious cakes in La Chouquetterie.
There's fun to be had at La Forge, 'the perfect place for trendy après-ski,' and Le Shack, a Resto-Bar with a sunny terrace on Place St-Bernard. There's also a micro brasserie called La Diable which serves devilishly good beer, then, for hard party people, Le P'tit Caribou stays open until 3 am and is said to be the wildest ski bar in North America. Prove them right (or wrong)!
For other entertainment, La Source has swimming pools, saunas and a fully equipped gym. Then there's dog sledding, ice climbing, fishing and skating, sleigh rides, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, tubing, a cinema, spas, a casino, bowling, a golf simulator (whatever that is) and a swimming pool…good golly Miss Molly you certainly won't be bored.
Do something a little different and get yourselves to Tremblant - or, better still, let GetSkiing get you there.
Gary's Little Gems
"Mt Tremblant has a unique Quebecois culture, good skiing for all levels and high levels of accommodation which makes for a great all round ski holiday. It is relatively easy to get to as the flights are only six hours across the Atlantic and a two hour transfer from Montreal." Skiing Holidays in Tremblant
