There's snow and there's snow and Fernie has more than most - 9 metres a year on average - so it's heaven for off-pisters who like steep adventures through the trees on uncharted terrain. They call the snow 'champagne powder' because it's so light and exciting. However, there are ample opportunities for everyone, so don't think you have to be expert to enjoy skiing here.
The resort is four miles away from the town itself, well-served by buses. There are nursery slopes up the Deer and Elk chairs. There are groomed runs for intermediates including yummy blue cruisers, and thrilling blacks for experts. For snowboarders, there are adrenaline-pumping descents through the trees, powder bowls and natural gullies.
To cap it all, the scenery is breathtaking, the sky always seems to be blue, it's not crowded and you could be in heaven when you're in Fernie - ski heaven, that is.
The Fernie resort village is convenient after a day on the slopes for both eating and drinking, though small. Why not try the vodka-tasting ice bar at The Cirque or the Griz Bar with its live music? Fernie itself, a short bus-ride away, is a charming heritage town and has a greater selection of bars and restaurants.
Here, you could visit art galleries or the theatre, take an historic walking tour - or watch the Ghostriders - the local ice-hockey team. There's an Aquatic Centre with a pool and a gym, you can hire fat bikes for winter trail riding - and there is outstanding snowcat skiing, night skiing, snowshoeing, Nordic skiing…
Fernie's a fantastic place for powder-filled fun and GetSkiing can take you there. While most of the accommodation is located in the town, we have some great slope-side accommodation called Lizard Creek Condos.
