Skiing Holidays in Söll, Austria

Ski Söll

A skiing holiday in Söll is like coming home only with mountains and snow! That's because it's one of the most popular resorts for Brits abroad, in fact it has been for more than twenty years, so no worries if speaking German isn't one of your life skills.

With a recently-improved ski lift system, the resort has access to over 250kms of fun pistes in the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental - a name nearly as long as one of the runs. Seriously though, it's a great area, particularly for intermediate cruisers.

Beginners can take advantage of convenient nursery slopes just up from the village and children are very well-catered for. One supervised area,

Hexenkinderland, has a witches theme and here kids can play and gain confidence on their skis at the same time. For more experienced skiers, head to the top of Hohe Salve and ski down black, red then blue runs right down to the village. You can also take an easy detour to Kitzbühel via Westendorf if you like a little more challenge.

Après-ski Söll

Söll is an attractive village, with a traffic-free centre, traditional Tyrolean chalet buildings, an impressive church and a unique enchanting feature of a graveyard lit by candles at night.

It's good value for money and the après-ski starts early and finishes late, for all you party people. Bars such as theMoonlight, Hexenalm and Salvenstadl (sounds so much better than the English name which is Cow Shed!) are fun places to be and you may be encouraged to dance on the tables.

Eating out seems to be best in hotel restaurants and the Postwirt and Feldwebel have been mentioned in dispatches. Try the Dorf Stub'n - fab meat fondues - or the Rossini - excellent pizzas. Plenty to choose from here, including the fabulous revolving terrace restaurant at the top of the Hohe Salve gondola.

The nightclub is called the Whisky-Mühle, named after the local drink (presumably because you dance better after a few glasses?) and it's wild and crazy.

As for activities which don't involve eating and drinking, there are two toboggan runs, sometimes floodlit at night, impressive night skiing opportunities, and coach trips to Salzburg, Innsbruck and Vipiteno in Italy.

Good value, fun for families, groups and singles too, Söll has loads to offer and GetSkiing can fix it all for you.

Gary's Little Gems

"If you like big skiing, followed by big night life at good prices, Soll is for you. Try skiing the whole Ski Welt area as you can ski from Soll, to Ellmau, Brixen, Westendorf,Hopfgarten and end up in a place called Going, all in one day. Each of these villages are lovely but don't have too many schnapps in Going as you could be going, going, gone!"
