Andorra
Andorra has three main lively and affordable resorts that make it an ideal ski holiday choice for families and young couples. Pas de la Casa is fantastic for snowboarding as well as skiing, Soldeu, part of the Grand Valira Ski area, boasts modern lifts and wide open runs and Arinsal is the place to choose if you don't want to break the bank! It offers low prices and reasonably-priced accommodation alongside confidence-building ski runs.

Austria
Austria justifiably boasts some of the prettiest ski villages in the world and is home to a good choice of family-run small hotels and chalets. It can also lay claim to some spectacular skiing. Popular resorts include picturesque Ellmau which is part of the Ski Welt, Kitzbuhel, Sol, high altitude Obergurgl and St Anton, one of the finest of the Austrian ski resorts which offers an amazing 276km of piste.

Bulgaria
A natural option for beginners and those looking for a highly affordable ski holiday, Bulgaria can also shout about its award-winning ski schools and excellent service. Borovets and Pamporovo are the two main ski areas, both set in picturesque pine forests and both offering good nursery slopes and English-speaking ski schools. A third resort is Bansko which lies at the foot of the Vihrin, the highest mountain in the Pirin range. Here you can still find a traditional local atmosphere side by side with lively bars and restaurants.

Canada
Canada offers fantastic mountain ranges and great skiing and snowboarding opportunities, as well as a super friendly atmosphere to ski in, particularly for families. Its snow record is also unbeatable. There are three main resorts to choose from, Banff, Lake Louise and Whistler, while French-speaking Quebec might not offer the same high octane ski experience but makes up for it in atmosphere and access to the charming French culture.

France
Practically every ski resort in France is highly rated by skiers and the huge ski areas mean that there is something for everyone from beginners to extreme ski seekers. The list of resorts is endless from Avoriaz, gateway to the magnificent Portes to Soleil ski circuit, to famous Chamonix, Courcheval and , Val Disere, La Plagne and value-for-money La Tania, particularly popular with British families many of whom go year after year. Les Arcs is a purpose-built ski resort that ticks all the boxes.

Italy
Italy has some of the best-equipped resorts in the Alps thanks to the Winter Olympics. They are good value-for-money and easily accessible. The main resorts include Sauze d'Oulx, probably Italy's best-known resort and famous for its Alps ski scene, Bardonecchia, Sestriere, Courmayeur and Cervinia, one of the highest resorts in the Alps where the mighty Matterhorn towers over the mountain terrain.

Lapland
Lapland in winter is a magical experience. A scenic winter wonderland located deep inside the Arctic Circle. Blanketed in snow from December to April, reindeer far outnumber people here, and snow-laden trees form bizarre sculptures in a vast and silent landscape. At night the mesmerising Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) shimmer in the moonlight. By day there are exhilarating reindeer, husky and snowmobile safaris. For some visitors the months of December and January are the most evocative, when the blue twilight of 'Kaamos' envelops the artic landscape and days pass in a palette of rose-coloured dawns and dusks.

Norway
Looking for a traditional, complete winter holiday experience, Norway is an unbeatable choice with its excellent snow record and family-friendly ski centres. The premier ski resort is Hemsedal, an idyllic mountain location in the Hallingdal Valley. Also worth considering is Lillehammer/Hafjell, host to the 1994 Winter Olympics which boasts award-winning restaurants, good shops and real mountain village feel.

Romania
Skiing holidays in Romania find you in a delightful, friendly and welcoming country. Our Ski Romania team has secured some of the best accommodation in the very popular Romanian ski resort of Poiana Brasov. Switzerland
The granddaddy of ski locations, Switzerland is well-known for its chic resorts and famous visitors, but in fact it offers superb skiing for all levels and at very reachable prices. The best-known resorts include Grindlewald which is known as the "birthplace of alpine skiing", Verbier and the Four Valleys, undoubtedly one of the finest ski areas in Europe and Villars, a charming resort on a sunny plateau. For a completely car-free experience choose Zermatt dominated by the majestic Matterhorn and one of the most sophisticated of the Swiss resorts.

The USA
America boasts a great choice of ski resorts from the 'old west' charm of Breckenridge to the purpose-built capital of powder, Vail. For a really 'cowboy' experience choose Jackson Hole, while Lake Tahoe is as pretty as a picture. The friendly and accessible American culture makes this an excellent choice for families and those learning to ski for the first time.
